Featured Item. Bright Red Necklace

My featured item this week has been seeking a lot of attention recently in my Etsy shop, it is the Bright Red Necklace.
There's no guessing where the name for this one came from, I must have been feeling very matter of fact when I named it! Bright red beads and a red jewel enamel pendant, make a necklace to be noticed.

It is a beautiful necklace hanging 20 inches long to the pendant, it would be perfect with a strapless or V neck top to best show off the piece.
The pendant is an oval jewel enamel cabochon in red and with a hint of green, it shimmers in the light with the glitter inlays in the jewel enamel and is held in place by a Vintaj filigree piece, it even looks just as beautiful behind the pendant.

Underneath the pendant hangs a nugget wrapped with leaf patterned filigree bead caps, for a regal look.

To buy this one of a kind Bright Red Necklace it is £12.50 with £3.50 United Kingdom Postage and packaging. I do also postage post aboard.

Featured Item. Blackberry Earrings.

My featured item this week is inspired by a walk I took last week. My featured item is the Blackberry Earrings from my shop Fashion Magpie Jewellery.
I decided last week that I'm not going for walks enough at the moment, I live in rural Northumberland and I'm surrounded by the best countryside views and vistas the north Pennines have to offer but I don't go explore it enough these days. When I was younger I regularly walked up to Hadrian's wall and had picnics at Cawfields or played in the woods at Haltwhistle Burn. Now though the only time I'm out walking is either to work, the shops or around the block with the dog.
So I put on my boots and grabbed the dog for a walk. I love autumn, the colours are amazing and the weather is getting more blustery.
I decided to walk from Hexham to Corbridge, which isn't a long walk but my dog loves it. It follows the road between the two towns and has a line of trees either side of the road. Beyond that you can see along the Tyne Valley in both directions over the hills and down into the valley bottom where the river Tyne meanders.
The trees are only just starting to change and drop their leaves. I found a few conkers as I was walking and pocketed them. Apparently there good for keeping spiders out your house!
Around the base of the trees brambles where starting to ripen and I decided instead of doing another leaf themed autumn post, I'd feature my Blackberry Earrings instead.

There design was inspired by the black bead, which reminded me of a berry with it's bumpy surface, the green bead underneath represents the leaves of the bush and the bronze colour of the metal hoop represents the woody vines. I love how these earrings all came together, they look beautiful and are super lightweight!

The Blackberry Earrings are £6.00 and £3.20 UK postage and packaging.

#treasurytuesday Lilac and Lavaender by heArt of Nature Studio

Every Tuesday is treasury Tuesday in the world of Etsy.com. A treasury is when a person makes up a list of 16 or less items with a theme.
This week I'm featuring a list which my featured item this week, the purple leaf necklace, is listed in.

It is called Lilac and lavender and features a mix of crafts with the theme in common. Made by heArt of nature studio, I think my favourite piece in the treasury is a little picture of a doe in the woods with a water colour back ground of pinks and lilacs by Studio Emma Kaufman, which makes it look like sun set. Beautiful piece!

Featured Item. Purple Leaf Necklace

The featured item this week for Fashion Magpie Jewellery is one I very nearly kept for myself. I named it the Purple Leaf Necklace.
The necklace was designed with bohemian in mind, I went with the trend for seventies long pendant style necklaces.
My favourite part of the necklace is the leaf. I love doing this technique with jewel enamel, although it can be quite messy. I used a leaf charm with a dot pattern to it so the jewel enamel has something to bond onto. I've found through experience with this technique that the rougher the surface of the charm the better it works. Smooth finishes just flake back off because the jewel enamel has nothing to hold.
I got the idea from a book about enamelling my dad brought me for Christmas last year.

To make it first I placed the charm on a non stick baking sheet and heat it up slightly with a heat gun, then I put very small amounts of jewel enamel onto the charm. Just enough that I can't see the metal anymore.
Next holding the heat gun high up I slowly bring it closer to the charm, if you go to fast or start to close, it just blows the jewel enamel everywhere! As you bring the heat gun down you'll start to see the jewel enamel transform from its powder base into a liquid and melt onto the charm.
When it had all fully melted  I turned off the heat gun and used a tooth pick to gentle move the charm to another area on the sheet to cool down.
For the leaf in this necklace I used a mix of pink sapphire, amethyst, deep gold and purple sapphire.
To add to the bohemian theme of this necklace I found a filigree and painted in the purple with amethyst Vintaj patina ink. The colour perfectly compliments the shades of purple in the leaf.
I fastened the two pieces together with jump rings and added the chain. The necklace measures 20 inches long.

The Purple Leaf Necklace is £12.95 and £3.20 UK postage and packaging.

#FolksyFriday. Geeks and gamers.

My Folksy Friday this week is going to be the second part to my Tuesday Treasury blog post (click here to read.) The theme is the same and will be geeks and gamers.
As always I will chose five items from Folksy.com to feature and I will give a short description of why I chose it and who made it. To be take a look at the piece just click on the title below the product picture.

1. The first piece is a Star Wars inspired cushion. My partner is a Star Wars geek and I'm sure he would like this so it had to be included. I love the use of colours which gives this piece, by Stitches and Stitches, a cheerful feel to the design and helps the images pop out at you.

£12.00

2. Staying with Star Wars now with this comical mug. I love how it reminds me of a Banksy picture and it made me laugh when I found it which is always a bonus! It's by Barry D Bulsara Fine Art Print Maker and is hand decorated on the 9cm x 11cm (including the handle) mug. I think I may need to keep this designer in mind for Christmas in a few months time.

£10

3. The third item in this geeks and gamers Folksy Friday is this interesting necklace by Nanfan Jewellery. I love the design of this bracelet with the copper circuit board design and the wrap round bracelet, it looks like a piece I would get asked about if I wore it. It has the perfect mix of beauty and intrigue.
Also if the turquoise wrap isn't doing it for you, there are other colours to chose from.

£25.00

We're nearly at the end of this Folksy Friday now so just a quick reminder that if you see anything you'd like to buy just click on the title of the item under the picture and you'll be taken over to Folksy to the item you want.

4. The fourth piece I have chosen is this set of 3 miniature canvas. I found this Ghostbusters print whilst searching for a birthday gift for my brother. I'm always impressed how much detail you can get into these little designs and this one is no exception. It's a scene from the end of Ghostbusters the movie and The Teeny Tiny Canvas Co even provide you with the little easels to stand them on. Each canvas measures 9 x 7cm and the easel is 12cm.

I love this game, and this piece sums up the fun you have playing it!

#Treasurytuesday For the geeks and gamers by Leah Wilkinson

The treasury Tuesday blog post for this week is for the geek and gamers! I choose this theme because it's my brothers birthday soon so I'm present hunting, unfortunately while making this treasury I got a little distracted by all the jewellery on offer with this theme!
If you don't know what a treasury is, it is basically a list of 16 or less items on Etsy.com with a theme.
A lot of the images in this treasury take me back to my child hood playing on PlayStation one, the only games I'm missing from this list is Spyro the dragon and Tomb raider! I literally played my playstation until it broke, it's in the attic now with a broken lid and unable to produce sound when a book is placed on the top to keep the lid down!
There's so much imagination that goes with this theme that you're sure to find something that little bit different!

I'm planning on staying with this theme this week and continuing it for Folksy Friday.

Featured Item. Filigree Bead and Red Drops Earrings

This weeks featured item is the Red Dangle Earrings, from my shop Fashion Magpie Jewellery.
Fashion Magpie Jewellery is a completely handmade business, where every piece I make is a one off.

The red dangle earrings where made with a large filigree bead which has a wire inserted through the centre and then loops are added at either end.
Below the filigree bead I hung chain of 3 different lengths from the loop. On the end of each chain hangs a red bead which I wrapped the excess wire of the head pin around.
The earrings hang from bronze ear wires and are lightweight making then easy to wear during the day and smart enough to then wear for a night out.

The Red Dangle Earrings are £6.00 with £1.95 UK postage and packaging.

Treasury Tuesday. Flowers

This week for treasury Tuesday I have made a treasury with the theme of flowers. A treasury is a list of 16 or less items with a theme on Etsy.com.
To make this treasury, I put a call out on my favourite Facebook group for anything flower related. I wasn't disappointed! I got 98 replies!
I decided rather then go for the obvious ones I'd do a wide selection of crafts to showcase in the treasury. I found everything from children's clothing to bird feeders. I gave a heart to every item people had submitted and choose my 16 for the treasury.
See what you think of my selection by clicking here.
