New In August To Fashion Magpie Jewellery

Welcome to my monthly blog post to get you up to date with Fashion Magpie Jewellery.
In August I started the month with a craft fair at Crawcrook. It was a busy little show in the middle of the town in the centre of the park. The sun shone for most of the day and the turn out was great, unfortunately it was also very windy in the part of the park which I had my stall. It was a new experience for me selling outside, and I struggled a bit with the wind. I spent most of my time setting my table up the way I wanted it after a gust blew it all away. That was lesson one I learnt, lesson two was that I have a lack of blue items of jewellery to sell and I missed out on sales because of this. However I welcome all these lessons that I learn at the fairs I do, with out them I can't progress.

The month of August has been a pretty quiet month so my focus has been on making the brand better and trying to research more ways to keep in touch with you, the fans of Fashion Magpie Jewellery. As you read this you will have noticed a pop up come onto your screen asking you to subscribe to my newsletter. The newsletter is something I've been working toward for a while now, I've decided to go with Mailchimp as my provider because I have the option of using an app to keep up with who has joined up. It can also provide options such as sending out personal newsletters to people who's birthday it is that month so I could give them a coupon code for my shop for that month.
I'll be using the newsletter to send out weekly updates on what blog posts I have published and any offers I have running at the moment, such as if I do a sale or I have a one day flash sale.

Another thing I have been busy with this month is trying to get my Etsy shop fully stocked to 100 items, I'm nearly there. Only 2 more items to go! One hundred items is meant to be the magic number for Etsy in terms of being seen, so I thought it couldn't hurt to try. My Folksy shop is already over the 100 items mark and is heading toward the 130th piece!

Lastly I wanted to tell you about a fair I will be doing this Saturday 5th September 2015 at Morpeth Town Hall, Northumberland. I love Morpeth, it's such a beautiful market town, it's always a pleasure to visit. This craft fair is the same day as the farmers market too, so if you do decide to come along there is plenty is do and visit. Hopefully it will be a successful day and who knows I may make this a monthly show to do!

Treasury Tuesday. Birds of a Feather Flock Together by Bella and Roo

Welcome to treasury Tuesday. This week I am featuring a treasury from Etsy I have been added to called Birds of a feather flock together by Bella and Roo.
A treasury is a group of up to 16 idea which are complied on Etsy in to a list with a theme, this treasuries theme is birds.
My blue bird brooch from Fashion Magpie Jewellery made it into this list. It is a filigree brooch with dark navy jewel enamel bird and chain detail.

I love anything to do with birds so this treasury really appeals to me. My favourite item is the needle felted budgie, i think they look so life like and have such a sweet little face.
This is partly what the joy of treasuries on Etsy can do. You can find things you never would have found on your own!

Featured Item. The Birds Nest Ring.

This weeks featured item is the Bird Nest Ring, which is available in my shop Fashion Magpie Jewellery.

The birds nest ring has been a popular piece in my shop and is part of the new range of rings I mentioned in my earlier post about the steampunk cog ring. (read here.)
The beads at the centre of this ring which make the eggs of the birds nest, are a beautiful deep orange colour but also shine with a multitude of other colours which you don't see until the light reflects off them.

The wire is a galvanised wire which was wound through all three beads then rounded them several times to make the base of the nest. The wire was then wounded between each bead three times to make the nest strong. For the ring base I decided upon a size and made a circle with the wire 3 widths wide and then coiled the wire over these as tightly as I could so the original circle could not be seen beneath the coil. The birds nest was then attached to the base once the coil ends meet and the last of the length of wire was wound around the base of the nest to keep it from wobbling.

If you would like to buy the Birds Nest Ring it is £4.50 from Fashion Magpie Jewellery with £1.95 UK postage and packaging. (I can also send aboard)

Treasury Tuesday. Wedding Confetti in our hair by Crochet made by Leanne

Tuesdays are Treasury Tuesday in the world of Etsy shops. this week i'm going to show you a treasury i've been featured in on Etsy by Crochet Made By Leanne.
First a short explanation of what a treasury is for those who are Etsy novices or don't use Etsy. A treasury is a group of 16 items collected by a person into a list with a common theme in this case weddings.
I chose the Wedding Confetti in our hair treasury to feature this week because it is my anniversary today with my partner, we've been together 5 years today!
At some point we hope to get married so this is the perfect treasury for today.
The piece I had included is the wedding leaf earring and necklace set. Read more about this set here.

My favourite piece in this treasury is the tiara by Miss Moonshine Makes, I think it's beautiful. A very simple decorative piece for your hair but very effective.

Featured Item. Three Pendant Necklace.

Each week I aim to do a featured item post, which tells you a little bit about a piece from my shop Fashion Magpie Jewellery. This week I have chosen the Three Pendant Necklace.
This necklace started off as three embossed coins, embossed with the Celtic design Vintaj decoemboss. Originally I was going to attach the coins together but as fortune would have it I had them set down next the pendants which one fell into. I love when you have happy accidents like this, the coins fit perfectly within the pendants. It was meant to be!
I set about painting the coins with patina ink and buffed them to reveal the design again and then sealed with a glaze to retain the colour. Next I glued them in place and used jump rings to secure the pendants together in a V formation.

For the rest of the necklace I used tigertail with culottes and threaded seed beads in orange, white black and peach together to match the pendants.

The necklace measure 16 inches long has a extension chain for that little bit extra comfort if you want it longer.

If you would like to buy the Three Pendant Necklace it is £12.50 from Fashion Magpie jewellery With £3.20 UK postage and packaging. (I can also send aboard)

Featured Item. Pink Cluster Necklace

The inspiration for the Pink Cluster Necklace came from a book of necklace technics I brought to try to make some different pieces. The book was called 'Twenty to make necklaces' by Stephanie Burnham and had a tutorial for a cluster necklace in it called hidden treasures.

The book explains in 6 simple steps how to put the necklace together and what materials you will need including the tools used.
For my adaptation of their design I went with a pink theme and layered the beads so that they gradually got bigger the further down the 'Y' of the necklace. I used mainly faux pearls to give it a lustrous look and coupled them with some clear crystals with a pink centre to break up the colour.

If you would like to buy the pink cluster necklace it is £12.50 from Fashion Magpie jewellery With £3.20 UK postage and packaging. (Can also send aboard)
